Bill 29 in brief
Bill 29 is the Act to protect consumers from planned obsolescence and to promote the durability, repairability and maintenance of goods, adopted by the National Assembly of Quebec. It amends the Consumer Protection Act so that goods sold in Quebec last longer and can be repaired.
For a technology retailer or reseller, two measures change daily life: the warranty of good working order, which imposes a minimum period during which a good must work normally, and the obligation to make replacement parts and repair services available at a reasonable price. The periods and categories of goods covered are set by regulation, including Order in Council 1459-2025.
These obligations affect computers, phones, peripherals and many other products you sell every day. As of October 5, 2026, the warranty of good working order and the availability of parts, repair and maintenance information must be displayed in store and on the quote, for every covered product.
